Stage time with Eriko~

This year's nail demo on stage was crazy!! St James's tech team did not set up the live feed as promised... I think that caused my in-charge and tech team to freak out! They were running around like ants on hot bricks... How to settle in such a short notice??!! How is everyone going to see the demo~ So in the end, the girls were invited on stage to see what Eriko & I did. 

The stage became free-entry for everyone to gather around to see the nail art. Extra privileges for all our visitors. Very quickly, Eriko & I was surrounded.

I was very ambitious and challenged to finish 5 nails on stage. In the end, I managed to finish the nail art for four nails.

These crazy sharp nails are called Stilettos Nails. It aims to elongate the fingers.

Somewhat similar to the nails seen on the Empress Dowagers in those old time dramas! Lol~ Not very practical for modern lifestyle. My model who came do do her nails 2 nights before, had trouble typing on her smartphone, and removing her contact lens. The Express Dowager don't have iphone~~

Eriko did a Japanese style sweet sakura nails. I did a Russian style nail art that I picked up on my trip to St Petersburg earlier this year.

Glad that everyone who came got to learn 2 new styles of nails. Wanted to do something different from Eriko so that you girls get to learn different techniques... Glad all turn out as I imagined. I hope that you girls enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!

It was like a déjà vu of the stage time with Eriko during the Pink Party Bash in 2013. I'll dig out some photos to #throwback soon!~

Meeting the Judges

1st August 2015~ my lovely VIPs arrived at different times of the day. So excited to see all of them!! Our team made special arrangements to pick each one of them from the airport. To & fro multiple trips to the Changi Airport #notcomplaining #anythingfortheVIPs

Drove pass the NDP rehearsals~ and they were in awe by the sea of red and the majestic scale of the whole parade. One united nation~ at that point.... apart from the hot Sun, I feel a huge sense of patriotism.

Made our way to the hotel to check in~ then to the restaurant for a Judges meeting. This year's PinkRoom Cup, I've invited Eriko & Ms Miyuki, the representative from Japan's Nailist Association (JNA). So so so honored & happy with their presence. 

All went well despite the small tiny language barrier. Nail-language is the universal language between us. Appreciate everyone's hard work and seriousness throughout the whole meeting.

Mini autography session took place after the meeting~ LOL. Judges singlehandedly, personally, lovingly, signed each and every piece of the PinkRoom Cup 2015 Certificate of Participation. So nice right??!! So much love from them...

Happy birthday dear Eriko~♡

Mid-Week Blog (Break Time!)

Had a short break so I'm going to do a proper blog post now. 

This week is the so-called "workshops" week, conducting workshops after workshops and guiding our students to master a themed nail art. On Monday, I had the Gellish Manicure Class, teaching the techniques and precautions of using gel polish and on Tuesday and Wednesday, I was totally immersed in teaching the Melody Pro Nail Art Class~

Hehes, it was an afternoon of 'kawai'. 

Of course, being featured in Japan's Nail Up! latest issue (Vol.58) has the highlight of the week for me too! My good friend from Japan, Ms. Eriko, and I did an interview together and I even brought her around Singapore! It was a rare "day-out" for me where I finally managed to truly enjoy Singapore. I thank God that the weather then was all sunshine and breezy!

Eriko has always been very passionate about nail art just like me and we would always text each other about nail trends in Japan or Singapore, exchanging ideas and tips. It is also why when I wanted an international judge to be present at our Pink Room Cup, Eriko was my first choice!

Finally, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Open House next Monday! The previous one was really great and I got to meet ladies who are genuinely interested in nail art. There was even a lady from Indonesia, who committed to flying over to Singapore for half a year just to study with us! 

I am extremely touched and I vow that Pink Room do its best to train our students, xoxo. 

Well, it's only mid-week so I'm going to 'gungho' a bit more and push through till Saturday (Pink Room closes only on Sun)! Wishing strength and good luck to all those working hard on a Wednesday too!

NAIL ネイルUP! Vol.58

Gonna share about the behind the scene of the special feature of myself & 黒崎えり子 Eriko Kurosaki in the upcoming issue of the NAIL UP Magazine~ Nail Up is one of the best selling Japanese Nail Magazine worldwide! 

It's hard to expect the number of man-hours put into each article. I really admire the passion the magazine team has for their job. Going the extra mile to take photos, and getting the interview done. All the planning going on while we get ready for the photoshoot. 

 

Big thank you to the photographer for her patience as we kept changing our minds~ Checking if the photos are okay... the usual "look fat a not?", "aiyo, my hair so messy!".

NAIL ネイルUP! Part 2

I am glad everyone had enjoyed my previous post on the NAIL ネイルUP! feature. I'm sure many of you have seen the magazine by now. 

The best part of this feature was that I managed to get Nail Up team to include our graduates' salons. Initially, the team wanted to visit any random shopping center and do their interviews. I was thinking, why not feature our PinkRoom graduates. After all, our graduates practice professional nail services which I cannot guarantee for other salons.

The Magazine team requested for different types of nail salons in Singapore. Thus I recommended a few... which the team chose two different type of salon - a chain salon & a salon in a shop-house. Shop houses are unique to the Japanese, as nail salons in Japan are usually in shopping centers.

It wasn't an easy task for the reporters & photographers to feature our girls~ as they had to travel to different salons to conduct the interview and photo shoot, while carrying their equipment. And because of the language barrier, we had to bring a translator along as well!

 

The girls were asked on the most popular nail art designs in their salon, and which are their favorite nail products. They also shared their experience on how they start their business.

They are featured on PART 5 of the magazine feature~~ This is a hard-to-get chance and I'm glad that our graduates managed to be featured this time!

I hope that through my power in the industry, I will be able to help our graduates to receive more coverage on local and international media! This has always been my aim and I am glad that it is coming true! I have more exciting plans coming up~ stay tuned on my blog for more updates and find out how to be part it!

It's party time!

I was honoured to be invited to the JNA New Year Party on my last trip to Tokyo. It was a grand event attended by all the big names in Japans Nail industry. Suddenly I felt so 'small' in comparison to all these people's big big achievements! Most of them have left footprints in all parts of the world.

I was one of the only overseas guest at the party... or I guess, the only Singaporean there!  

I love my BB, still.

As much as I love my BB (Blackberry), I must admit that I cannot hide my love for Sumsung for it's front camera~~ #myBBcannot! Hurhur~ I know... I am probably the only person in the near 500km who is using a Blackberry. But it's really fast in the push mail service! I'm always first to receive emails compared to Apple and Android users~

......But I also understand that the world is changing now. And everyone is on Facebook and Instagram and all. Thus the decision few months ago to get a Sumsung. Now I take chio photos too!!

Visit to Erikonail エリコネイル

I had the chance to meet up with Eriko-san and her team on my recent trip to Tokyo. 

エリコネイル Erikonail moved to a new building at Omotesando. It was spectacular. Now, she manage to have the nail salon and nail school and her office all in one building.

It was late at night, yet her students were still practicing for the upcoming nail competition!
